THE LAST SAMURAI
STEVE CARELLA IN "THE LAST SAMURAI?" WOT? WOT!
********

If any of you thought Tom Cruise's Japanese co-star
looked familiar, you're right.  Ken Watanabe played the
Carella character in the "WAGAMACHI" (meaning "My
Town") series, the Japanese television version of The
87th Precinct..

Carella's name in the series was Goro Morita.   Meyer
Meyer's name was Narumi Narumi.

Ten of the novels were filmed and shown on Japanese
television, the first of them in 1992, the most recent in
1998, not all that long ago.  Most of them were 60
minutes long.  LADY, LADY, I DID IT! was 90 minutes
long because it was one of the special programs to
celebrate the fifteen-year anniversary of the Nippon
Television Company.  SADIE WHEN SHE DIED was
75 minutes long.  All ten were broadcast on
"Tuesday Suspense Theater" by Nippon Television.  All
ten are available on Japanese videocassette.
